Teacher vacancy rates in Virginia public schools at the start of 2024-2025 school year

Some school divisions have tried to address high teacher vacancies by hiring foreign teachers. Portsmouth Public Schools, for example, recently had an 8% vacancy rate. It hired 13 H-1B workers as instructors.
